Referees Course
Wednesday July 6 2010
With the generous support of Australian Athletes with a Disability
(AAWD), Wheelchair Sports WA has been able to
fly
internationally recognised wheelchair basketball referee Gabe
Caliguiri to Perth to run a development weekend
for our current
group of wheelchair basketball referees. Gabe worked closely with
our experienced and new referees with an
afternoon
theoretical and practical on court session before the Wheelcats
season opener.
The group was back again on Sunday, and had local Sports Media
company LMSC video tape the game for a video
de-brief.
The referees and Gabe were fitted with microphones to assists with
the de-brief following Sunday’s game.
Following a big weekend of games, Gabe was back again on Monday
night at the Be Active State League, working
with some
more of our referees which from all reports was very positive.
Our referees are a vital part of the game
of wheelchair basketball
and without them we simply wouldn’t have wheelchair basketball here
in Perth. Wheelchair Sports WA is very thankful
for all
of the support and hard work our referees have contributed to the
Association over a long period of time. Our
greatest thanks
to Gabe Caliguiri for all of his time, effort and expertise over
the weekend. WSWA is committed to supporting our
very
dedicated group of officials.
WSWA is working closely with the Department of Sport and Recreation
to bring Sharon Arnold across to Perth for the
Wheelcats home series against Dandenong (July 31 and August 1) to
provide another learning and development
opportunity
to our referees. Sharon is one of the most experienced referees the
world over and her presence here in Perth for a
home
round will again only help further develop our current group of
officials.
