Mad About Madi

Wednesday Juky 6 2010

One of Wheelchair Sports WA’s brightest stars has been making a name for herself in a number of international events

recently. Madison De Rozario has competed in Switzerland and the USA over the past couple of weeks and continues to

impress the world over. Taken directly from her own website (www.madid.com.au), below is all of the Madison related news

from her recent events.

24 June 2010, Arbon, Switzerland: Madi had three events at the Arbon Track Meet. She PB'd in all three and even "A"

Qualified for the World Championships next year in the 200m.

Along the way she's picked up more National records and will be pleased with that. Her times are better than they were

pre-operation:

  • 200m - 31.23
  • 400m - 59.23
  • 1500m - 3:35.89

26 & 27 June 2010, Arbon, Switzerland: Madi was back on the Arbon Track this weekend breaking more records. These

include two T53 Australian Open records - the 100m and the 200m. Not too shabby for a sixteen year old.

But being very driven, Madi was not satisfied with her 1500m time of 3:37.64. It was just under two seconds slower than her

effort three days prior, but she did have to pull the whole 1500m.

All the same, the Swiss Open Nationals for 2010 was very successful and all targets were reached.

The next stop for her is the US where she'll have two road events - a 5km in Cedartown then a 10K in Atlanta.

·         100m - 17.27

·         200m - 30.66

·         400m - 58.84

·         1500m - 3:37.64

Madison amazing trip continued this week with her winning the Junior Girls Division at the Cedartown 5K. Her time of 12 min 31s was an

incredible five minutes ahead of her next rival.

Overall, she finished an impressive fourth among the open women.

Next it was off to Atlanta to participate at the biggest 10km event in the United States. 55,000 athletes participated. Ethiopian, Gebre

Gebremariam won the event beating Kenya's Peter Kirui by just half a step.

As for the wheelchair event, Madi again was first among the junior girls and again ran fourth overall. Her time of 25 min 13s was about

ten minutes ahead of the next junior girl.

Madison's next competition will be in the Czech Republic in August - The IWAS Junior World Championships. But for now, its of to LA to

visit Disneyland, then it's home.
