Justin Eveson Nominated for World's Top Award

When you go to work on Tuesday next week, spare
a thought for poor old Justin Eveson who will be
staying in the
luxurious Emirates Palace Hotel the in Abu Dhabi.

champion turned movie star, will be there as a
nominee for the esteemed Laureus World Sports
Awards for 2010.
The Laureus World Sports Awards is the premier
global sports awards honouring the greatest
Sport men and women across all sports each year.
Eveson is nominated for the Laureus World
Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability.
The nomination caps off what has been a
brilliant few years for Eveson, who in 2009 won
every
tournament that he took part in and achieved a
number of awards, including:

Laureus World Sportsperson of the Year with a
Disability is awarded to the person who is
deemed to
best demonstrates excellent athletic achievement
and strong leadership qualities in a sport in
the
Paralympic programme.
Nominated alongside Eveson in the same category,
is fellow Australian and Wheelchair Marathon
champion, Kurt Fearnley, Gizem Girismen (Turkey)
Archery, Shingo Kunieda (Japan) Wheelchair
Tennis, Michael Teuber (Germany) Cycling and
Natalie Du Toit (South Africa) Swimming.
Making up the Australian contingent are surfers
Stephanie Gilmore and Mick Fanning who have both
been nominated in the Laureus World Action
Sportsperson of the Year category.
Wheelchair Sports WA Chief Executive Officer,
Teri O’Toole, said that Justin’s nomination
reflects his
commitment to the sport, work ethic, willingness
to assist in the development of others and his
own
tremendous ability.
“Justin’s nomination is terrific recognition for
the work he puts into his sport, as well as his
efforts to
promote the positive impact of physical activity
for people with a disability and we are really
thrilled
for him,” Teri said.
Eveson is honoured to have been nominated and is
looking forward to attending the event alongside
some of the World’s sporting greats.
“Receiving the Laureus Award nomination is a
tremendous honour and a great reward for the
hours
of training, travel and time spent away from my
family.
“Just being in the same room as some of the best
athletes in the World will be a humbling
experience,” he said.
