Archery is open to athletes with a physical disability; this sport offers individual, pairs and team events for both standing and wheelchair competitors. It is one sport that disabled athletes can compete on an equal basis with able-bodied people.

There are specific rules relating to wheelchair competitors, however all other rules of competition comply with able-bodied archery.  Wheelchair archers are divided into 2 classes however there are other classifications for standing archers. Wheelchair archers compete in either W1 for quadriplegic archers, and allows a release mechanism or W2, which is open to all wheelchair archers.  All classes must comply with FITA rules.

However W1 archers can use either a compound or recurve bow.

As wheelchair archers can compete equally with able bodied archers, wheelchair archers are aligned with archery clubs in their area.
